Scott Malkin, Chairman
Scott Malkin was appointed an Executive Director on 29 January 1993. He is the founder and Chairman of Value Retail PLC and the co-founder and Chairman of Value Retail China. Mr. Malkin is a Trustee of the New York Public Library, of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and of Partners In Health. He also serves as Chairman of S.D. Malkin Properties and works with other non-profit organisations.
Roderick Gibbs, Managing Director
Roderick Gibbs was appointed an Executive Director on 29 January 1993 and has been involved with Value Retail since its inception. He is primarily responsible for the development of the Value Retail Villages and oversees real estate matters.
Desirée Bollier, Chair – Value Retail Management
Desirée Bollier was appointed an Executive Director on 1 May 2001. She is responsible for overseeing the management of all Villages operated by Value Retail, is a member of the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) Executive Committee and sits on the corporate board of the Royal Academy of Arts.
George Host, Executive Director
George Host was appointed an Executive Director on 29 January 1993 and has been involved with Value Retail since its inception. He oversees corporate matters, and also serves as President of S.D. Malkin Properties.
Mark Burton was appointed a Non-Executive Director on 1 November 2007. He serves as a Board Member of Real Estate Credit Investments and is Chairman of AEW UK REIT PLC, both of which are quoted companies. He also sits on the Real Estate Advisory Boards for Norges Bank Investment Management and GreenOak and acts as an advisor to Citic Capital Real Estate.
Mr. Burton is a Chartered Surveyor, has been a member of the UK Government Property Advisory Group and was formerly chairman of The Investment Property Forum and the Urban Land Institute UK. In 2001 Mr. Burton became Chief Investment Officer of the Real Estate Department at Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, subsequently performing the same role at Abu Dhabi Investment Council in 2007 from which he retired in 2010.
Leslie Chao was appointed a Non-Executive Director on 25 July 2006 and has been affiliated with Value Retail since its inception. Until 2008 he served as Chief Executive Officer of Chelsea Property Group, the world’s largest outlet shopping mall company, which was acquired by Simon Property Group in 2004. Mr. Chao currently also serves as a Non-Executive Director of Phillips Edison ARC Shopping Center REIT, a non-publicly traded REIT that invests in shopping centres in the United States.
Thomas (Tom) DeRosa was appointed a Non-Executive Director on 6 July 2005. He is Chief Executive Officer of Welltower Inc. (NYSE:HCN), a global leader in health care real estate, and is a Director of Retail Opportunity Investments Corp.
Mr. DeRosa was formerly Vice Chairman and Chief Financial Officer of The Rouse Company, a US real estate company that was acquired in 2004 by General Growth Properties, Inc. He spent more than 20 years in investment banking and, prior to joining Rouse, was a Managing Director and Global Co-Head of Deutsche Bank's Health Care Investment Banking Group based in London. He is a former Director of Dover Corporation (NYSE:DOV) and a former member of the Board of Directors of Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
Mr. DeRosa serves as a governor of the World Economic Forum, is a member of the Board of Directors of Argentum, the largest senior living association in the U.S., and serves as an Independent Director of the Empire State Realty Trust, Inc.
Timon Drakesmith was appointed a Non-Executive Director on 21 August 2012. He is Chief Financial Officer of Hammerson plc, a FTSE 100 owner-manager and developer of retail property in Europe. Prior to that role, he was Finance Director of Great Portland Estates PLC and the MK Electric division of Novar PLC and Group Director of Financial Operations of Novar PLC. He has also held other financial roles at Credit Suisse, Barclays and Deloitte Haskins & Sells.
Ruth Kennedy was appointed a Non-Executive Director on 1 March 2016. She is a brand and business consultant specialising in the luxury goods and services sector who began her career at S.G. Warburg as an investment banker. From 2006 to 2009 she served as head of Quinlan Private UK, a real estate and private equity group managing commercial and residential properties in Europe including luxury hotels. For sixteen years prior to that position, she was with David Linley and Co., the bespoke furniture and design business, including as managing director. She is a member of the Board of Directors of Bamford, Belmond Ltd., Daylesford Organic and David Linley & Co.
James Lambert, Deputy Chairman, was appointed a Non-Executive Director on 16 October 1995 and Deputy Chairman on 26 January 2016, and he has been involved with Value Retail since its inception. He is a founder Trustee of IntoUniversity, a local charity which has successfully scaled into a national charity with 27 centres. James recently retired as Chair and Trustee and sits on the Advisory Panel. The charity currently supports 36,500 young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to attain either a university place or another chosen aspiration. IntoUniversity was described by one Times columnist as ‘the most powerful engine for social mobility in the UK’. He is also a Trustee of Somerset House, a leading centre for contemporary culture in London, and is an Honorary Fellow of the New College of the Humanities where he sits on the Advisory Board.
Janie Ligon was appointed a Non-Executive Director on 3 July 2001 and takes an active role with group-wide retail and marketing activities in the business. She has a background in marketing, finance, sales and product production for wholesale/retail clothing and consumer products businesses, and previously held positions at Levi Strauss & Co. and McKinsey & Company.
Debora Spar was appointed a Non-Executive Director on 1 January 2013. She is President of Barnard College, a leading private liberal arts college for women in New York City that is affiliated with Columbia University. From 1991 to 2008 she was a Professor at Harvard Business School, where she taught courses on the politics of international business, comparative capitalism and economic development. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of Goldman Sachs and a Trustee of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.
